Releasing ceremony of the book THIROBHAVICHA SAMRANJYAM- translation of Karen Shakhnazarov’s VANISHED EMPIRE

Releasing ceremony of the book Thirobhavicha Samrajyam was held at the Russian Cultural Centre in Trivandrum on 3 October 2012. T he book is the translated version of the famous screen play of Russia’s renowned film maker Karen G.Shakhnazarov’s Vanished Empire. The book is published by the Russian Cultural Centre in Trivandrum.

1150th anniversary of the Russian Statehood celebrated in Trivandrum

Russian Cultural Centre jointly with the Moscow based Foundation Russkiy Mir celebrated 1150th anniversary of Russian Statehood. His Highness Sree Padmanabha Dasa Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma Maharaja of Travancore inaugurated the celebration in wll attended function that was held at the Harmony Banquet Hall of Hotel Mascot. Inaugurating the celebration the Maharaja said that Russia always remains a true friend of India. “Russia had a cordial relationship with Kerala especially Travancore region. I my self felt the warmth of Russian people thanks to the affinity shown by Swethoslav Roerich.

Anton Chekhov’s the Proposal staged in Trivandrum

Russia’s most popular dramatist Anton Chekhov’s The Proposal was staged on 10 October under the auspices of the Russian Cultural Centre in Trivandrum. Co-ordinator of the Chekhov Drama club at the Russian Centre Dr.Raja Warier directed the drama and the members of the club Dr.Ambikatmajan Nair , Sreekala Suresh and Sajeendran played the major roles.

Second Festival of Russian Language and Literature inaugurated in Trivandrum

Second Festival of Russian Language and Literature which is being organised jointly by the Moscow based Foundation ‘Russkiy Mir’, Russian Cultural Centre in Trivandrum and Pushkin Centre for Russian Language began on 15th October at the Symphony Hall, Hotel Mascot. Hon’ble Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly Mr. G.Karthikeyan inaugurated the festival.

Exhibition of paintings by Russian artists Elena Shryaeva and Tatyana Chagorova

Exhibition of paintings by famous Russian artists Elena Shryaeva and Tatyana Chagorova began at the Russian Cultural Centre on 26 October. Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Adv.K.Chandrika inaugurated the exhibition. Paintings were made on textiles especially on silk and cotton. The Mayor said that even though this art had been originated in India Indians did not give priority to this kind of fine arts.” I feel the artists wanted to blend both the Russian and Indian Culture.

Chess Tournament to mark the 120th Birth anniversary of Grandmaster Alexander Alekhin

A three day long State level Chess tournament which organised to mark the 120th Birth anniversary of the Russian Grandmaster Alexander Alekhin concluded on 5th November. The Chess tournament was organised by the Alekhin Chess Club at the Russian Cultural Centre and the Anand Chess Foundation. More than 60 players from all over Kerala participated in the event.

Jawaharlal Nehru's Birth Anniversary Celebrated

Like in the Previous years Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum and Nehru Centre jointly organised a function to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru - The first Prime Minister of India. Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly Mr. G. Karthikeyan inaugurated the meeting. In his inaugural speech Mr. Karthikeyan lauded the contribution of Nehru in moulding a modern India.
