Photo Exhibition Rozhdesthvo A photo Exhibition titled Rozhdestvo was organized from 4 to 7 January like previous years. The Exhibition was held at the Roerich Art Gallery of the Centre.The Photoexhibition Rozhdestvo displayed more than 40 photos reflecting the architectural beauty of the Russian Orthodox Churches More than 60 regular visitors of the Centre in 4 days had an opportunity to see the Exhibition The Exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Abraham Joseph, renowned grand master and Secretary Indo-Russian Religious Forum inaugurated the Exhibition. In his inaugural speech Prof Abraham Joseph lauded the role of Inter-Religious Co-operation in strengthening friendly relationship among nations. Music programme in connection with Russian Christmas 'Rozhdestvo' The Russian Cultural Centre organized a choir Music programme in connection with Russian Christmas 'Rozhdestvo' in association with the Mosses Valsalam Sasthriar Choir Group.More than 200 people attended the choir music. 30 member group presented 11 songs. The Entire show continued for 70 minutes. Painting Exhibition dedicated to Elena Roerich by Mrs. Usha Ramachandran This was the first Painting Exhibition in 2009.Mrs. Usha Ramachandran is a renowned artist who conducted Exhibitions in different parts of India. But this was her first exhibition in Trivandrum. According to Mrs.Ramachandran, her favorite artists were the Roerichs. She always tried to follow the colour combination of Nikolai Roerichs in her paintings, even though she selects theme from Kerala culture. Minister for Tourism and Home Affairs Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan inaugurated the Exhibition. More than 100 people visited the Art Gallery from 12 to 19 of January. Mr.Gopalakrishnan Nair honoured The Centre organized a function to honour Mr.Gopalakrishnan Nair, who translated most of the literature from Russian to Malayalam along with his wife. The function was at the Mini Hall of the Russian Cultural Centre. It was organized in association with the Russian Speakers' Forum Honoring the veteran translator Mr. Gopalakrishnan Nair a Talk on the Role of the translated versions of the Russian literatures in Knowing Russia's culture was also held 25 people attended News appeared in TODAYS PROGRAMMES in the leading news papers. We will exhibit the photographs of the Russian celebrities born in that month with a brief description. 175 birth anniversary of Dimitriy Mendalev 175 birth anniversary of Dimitriy Mendalev was celebrated by the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum. The Science Exhibition and Science Quize were oeganised in association with the Abraham Memorial Higher Secondary School, Thirumala, Trivandrum. More than 200 Students attended Function and 5 teams took parts in the quiz competition. Prof.Vijaya Krishnan inaugurated the meeting. In his inaugural address, Prof. Vijayakrishnan lauded the contribution of Russian Scientists in in making new discoveries that change the world. This Film Festival was organized as part of the Mayyazhi Mahotsavam and also to mark the 85th anniversary of MOSFILM. The Festival was held at the Civil Service A/C Auditorium, MAHE. Minister for Home Affairs, Government of Pondichery Mr. Valsaraj inaugurated the Festival. "Film Industry always helped our nations to strengthen friendly relationship. Raj Kapoor was known in Russia like any other Russian Artiste. Directors like Tarkovskiy and Sergei Eisenstein are well known among the film lovers in India", said the Minister in his inaugural address. Inauguration of Year of Youth Celebrations A Year long celebrations to mark the '2009 YEAR OF YOUTH' was inaugurated by the noted writer in Malayalam Mr.Paul Zakharia. The function was organised under the auspices of the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum. In his inaugural speech, Mr.Zakharai said that the Youth in many countries in Asia are trapped by the pseudo communalism, while the youth in Europe are trapped by narcotics. Celebrations like Year of Youth would help the new generation to come out of the traps, said Mr. Zakharia. Stars of March Date 1- 7 March 2009 - at the Art Gallery of the Russian Cultural Centre- Photoexhibition- photographs of the Great Russian celebrities born in the month of March were exhibited. Some of them were Yuri Gagarin,A.R. Belyaev,I.P.Topmakova, F.K.Iskander. N.A.Radlov, V.F.Nishinskiy, A.N. Vertinskiy etc. Get together of Indo-Russian Couples. An unique function was organised by the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum- A get together of Indo-Russian Couples. There are 6 men in Trivandrum who got married to Russian girls. We organised a function that created a platform where the Citizens of Russian Federation and other CIS countries could get introduced to each other. Five couple gathered for the function and 4 out of them actively participated in the interaction and quiz programme. The teams were named as GANGA-NEVA, KRISHNA- VOLGA, YAMUNA- MOSKVA and KAVERI- DNIPPER(the girl was from Ukraine. This was the first step to form the Kerala chapter of the Association of Citizens of CIS countries. The one hour programme was held at the Senate Chamber of the Taj Residency, Trivandrum. Questions on Russia's culture, art, literature, film and sports were asked to the Indian Husbands and questions on India were asked to Russian wives. National Awrad winning Director cum Actor Balachandra Menon and Actress Sona Nair interacted with the Indo -Russian Couples. Their children also participated. The function was organised in association with Taj Hotels and Ethihad Airways. 7 TV Channels and 10 news papers covered the progrmmes. Exhibition of paintings by Mr. S.Deepu To mark the 105th anniversary of the Great Russian artist Swetoslav Roerich, the Russian Cultural Centre organized a 5 day long Exhibition of paintings by Mr. S.Deepu from 6 March. Famous singer K.S.Chitra inaugurated the Exhibition. More than 40 paintings in acrylic and oil were exhibited. The Exhibition was open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm. Photo Exhibition Senzhini Rosssiyi A PHOTO Exhibition Senzhini Rossiyi was organized at the Main lobby of the Centre on 7 and 8 March as part of the International Women's Day Celebrations. Photographs about 35 women in Russia who established themselves in various fields were exhibited. These included businesswomen, scientists, cosmonauts, celebrities in the literary fields, film stars, Musicians, politicians etc. 2 news papers and Jeevan TV covered the Exhibition. District level Chess Tournament District level Chess Tournament was held at the lobby of the Centre on 10 March 2009. The tournament was organized by the Alekhin Chess Club of the CENTRE FOR Botwennik Trophy. There were more than 50 players participated in the tournament. Minu Rajendran won the Botwennik trophy with 5 ½ points. Yesinin Award Presentation The Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum in association with the Moscow State Yesenin Museum has instituted an award for the promotion of the Russian literature. We have selected Prof. O N V Kurup for the first Yesenin award. The award was presented to Prof. O N V Kurup in grand function that was held at the Sonata Hall of Hotel Mascot in Trivandrum. The Consul General of the Russian Federation in Southern India H.E. Mr. Vladislav V. Antonyuk gave away the Yesenin award to Prof. Kurup. Hon'ble Minister for Cultural Affairs and Education, Govt. of Kerala Mr. M.A.Baby delevered the key note address. Rathhesh C.Nair, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Trivandrum and the Director of the Russian Cultural Centre presided over the function. Mr. P. Gopinath welcomed the gathering. Exhibition of painting by Mr. Hari kumar.S To mark the birth anniversary of the members of the Roerich Family an Exhibition of painting was held from 21 to 28 March. The Exhibition was held at the Roerich Art Gallery. The Exhibition attracted big crowd. Most of the News papers covered the exhibition. Russian Speakers' Forum and the Chekhov Drama Club jointly organized a round table discussion in connection with the World Theatre Day. Theatre activist Sreekumar talked about Russian play writers and Stanislavskiy Theory. Exhibition of the photographers of famous theaters like BOLSHOI THEATRE was also held on 26 March. Film Festival in Kochi A Russian Film Festival was organized at Kozhokode by the Russian Cultural Centre in association with Aswini Film Society and Information and Public Relation Department, Government of Kerala. The Film festival was held at the Bank Employees Hall from 22 March to 27 March. The Festival was organized to mark the 85th Anniversary of MOSFILM. Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Thiruvananthapuram Ratheesh C. Nair inaugurated the Russian Film Festival. Mr. Chilavoor Venu, President, Aswini Film Society presided over the function. Mr. T.Velayudhan, Deputy Director, I&PRD, Government of Kerala also spoke on the occasion. The inaugural Film was A Rider named death. G.P.Danilovsky etc, Alla Pugacheva Release of the book LEV KULESHEV In connection with the 85th anniversary of MOSFILM the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum brought out a book titled LEV KULESHEV- Chalachitra Panini. The book is in Malayalam and written by Mr.Sabu Shankar, noted film critic of Kerala. This 95 page book can give an insight on the contribution of LEV KULESHEV in the World Film Industry in general and Russian Film Industry in particular. The releasing ceremony of the book was held at the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum on 6 April 2009 at 5-30 pm. Noted film actor Mr.Jagathi Sreekumar released the book by handing over the first copy to Mr.Rajagopal Iyyar. In his address Mr.Sreekumar said that Cinema had become a true media that could communicate with the common men. Movie can play a major role in creating the awareness among common people about the Culture of other countries. He lauded the efforts taken by Russian Film makers in introducing good movies. He said that Kuleshev was one of the great film makers who made experiments. Eminent Scholar and writer Mr.P.Govinda Pillai delivered the Key-note address. He said like the great Panini who changed the grammar of Language and literature, Lev Kuleshev changed the grammar of Cinema. Mr.Ratheesh C. Photographs reflecting different stages of the preparation of first man's space flight, the reception given to him at Kremlin, moments from Yuri Gagarin's visit to India etc. were exhibited at the Art Gallery. A 6-DAY LONG Russian Film Festival was held from 5 April onwards. 6 films - 72 Meters , The Rider Named Death, Heart of the Dog, Ostrov (Island), Anna Karenina Irony of Fate, 9 rota (9th Company)- were screened at the Russian Cultural Centre. Average 100 viewers came to the Centre every day to watch the movies. Seminar on PROSPECTS OF KERALA TOURISM IN RUSSIA The Russian cultural Centre, Trivandrum in association with the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation organised a seminar on PROSPECTS OF KERALA TOURISM IN RUSSIA. The seminar was held on 28th April 2009.Hon'ble Minister for Tourism and Home Affairs, Government of Kerala, Mr. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan inaugurated the seminar. In his inaugural speech the Minister said that even the time of Global Economic crisis the number of tourists coming from Russian to Kerala is being increased. He also lauded the role played by the Russian Honorary Consulate and the Russian Cultural Centre in Trivandrum in strengthening the relationship between Kerala and Russia in the field of Tourism. Dr. V.Venu I A S, Secretary, Tourism, Govt. of Kerala was the Guest of Honour. He said that inbound Tourism to Kerala from Russia is being increased by 10 percent every year. Chairman of Kerala Tourism Development Corporation Mr.Cherian Philip presided over the function. EXHIBITION ' STARS OF MAY' was held at the lobby of the Russian Cultural Centre from 1 to 7 May 2009. Photographs and bio-data of the following great citizens of the former USSR and Russia were exhibited: Boris Slutskiy, Boris Vasiliev, Tatyana Samolieva, Igor Sikorskiy Film appreciation camp for Children to mark the 85th anniversary of MOSFILM A 3 day long film appreciation camp for Children is being organized jointly by the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum and Kerala Children's Film Society. The camp is organized as part of the on going celebrations to mark the 85th anniversary of MOSFILM. The camp was inaugurated on 8 May 2009 by Mr. K.R.Mohanan, Chairman, Kerala State Film Academy. In his inaugural speech, Mr. Mohanan lauded the role of Mosfilm in contributing good films to the Cinema world. " Mosfilm contributed a large number of movies to the world. These included classics films, comedy films, War films, films based on scientific fictions. He also appreciated the new venture of Russian Cultural Centre in popularizing Russian films through the Festivals, being held all over the State in connection with the anniversary of Mosfilm. Film Director Vijayakrishnan presided over the function and Actor Jagathnathan spoke on the occasion. There are 105 school children are participating. In the coming 3 days they will visit Shooting locations, Studios and also will get acquainted with the post production facilities. More than 50 photographs were exhibited from 10 am to 5 pm. These photographs reflected the tragic scenes in the war fields and happy moments of the Great Victory. The Exhibition was titled Vilikaya Pobeda Russian War Film Festival A 7 DAY LONG Russian War Film festival is being organized by the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum to mark the 64th anniversary of the Great Victory over Fascism. Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala Shri.K.Jayakumar inaugurated the Film Festival. In his inaugural address, Mr. Jayakumar pointed out that War and Terrorism are the worst out come of the foolishness of mankind. The seven films that would be screened as part of the Victory day celebrations would help us to get an idea of the tragic moments in the history. Victory of the Soviet Union over Nazis changed the history of the twentieth Century. We are leading a peaceful life thanks to that Great Victory, he said. He also appreciated the effort of Mosfilm in producing war films. These films always help to feel the sufferings of our old generation due to war, he added. Mr.Firoz, Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Kerala delivered the key note address. Ratheesh C. The Russian Speakers' Forum The Russian Speakers' Forum at the Centre met on 24 May to observe the Day Slovenian Culture. Dr. K.Govindan Nair, Dr. Rajendran Nair, Dr. Sam Ebanazir and Dr.Anil Kumar.S etc. participated in the seminar . The Day of Slovenian Culture is observed every year and the discussions organized in this connection help the members to know more about Educational Fair "Higher Education in Russia" An Educational Fair "Higher Education in Russia" was held at the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum on 26 May 2009. 10 leading Professional colleges participated in the Exhibition. These included Moscow State Medical academy, Tver State Medical University, Volgograd Medical Academy, Moscow Aviation Institute, Moscow Radio Engineering University, Moscow Power Engineering University, Tomsk Polytechnic University etc. The Exhibition started at 10 a.m and was on till 6.30 pm. A good number of people and students the root of this Culture visited the Exhibition and showed their interest to get enrolled to the Higher Educational Institutions in Russia. The exhibition started next day at Hotel Avenue Regent, Ernakulam. Vice-President, Taj Group of Hotels Mr. T.Damu inaugurated the Exhibition. Some of them were Alexander Pushkin, Alla Akhmatova, V.V.Bikov, S.N.Galubov, V.V.Avechkin, Nikolai Chukovskiy, Viktor Konetskiy etc. 210th Birth anniversary of Alexander Pushkin celebrated The Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum organized various functions to mark the 210th Birth Anniversary of Russia's great Poet Alexander Pushkin. Photo Exhibition, Seminar and film show were organized on 6 June 2009 at the Russian Cultural Centre. Photo Exhibition was held at the Roerich Art Gallery from 10 am to 5 pm. Noted Poet Prof.Puthusseri Ramachandran inaugurated the seminar. In his inaugural address, Prof. Ramachandran said that Pushkin was one of the most popular poets of the world. "Alexander Pushkin lived only for 37 years. But his contribution to the literary World is great. He made Russian language and Literature popular. Alexander Pushkin's personal life was tragic but he will live in the hearts of millions of people thanks to his work" said Prof. Puthussery Ramachandran who translated many of Pushkin's poems in to Malayalam. In his key-note address, Poet Perumbuzha Gopalakrishnan said that Alexander Pushkin wrote for freedom. He always stood with those who wanted liberty. Through his poem Alexander Pushkin lauded the manifesto of Poets and writers. According to him writers should not go after publicity but should fight foe the rights of common man. DAY OF RUSSIA The Day of Russia was celebrated on 12 June 2009 under the auspices of the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Thiruvananthapuram. The official reception was held at the Symphony Hall of the Hotel Mascot between 1900 hrs and 2200 hrs. People representing different walks of life attended the Reception. While addressing the gathering the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Thiruvananthapuram Ratheesh C. Nair lauded the role played by the people-to-people relations in strengthening the bilateral relationship between Russia and India. "It is a good sign that many countries in started recognizing India as a Powerful nation. Being an Indian I feel proud but it goes without saying that Russia is the first Country to recognize India and established strategic partnership." Said the Honorary Consul. In his brief welcome speech Mr. Ratheesh C. Nair also touched the milestones in the history of Russian-Indian Relations. People representing deferent walks of life attended the function. Film Festival in Ernakulam To mark the 85th anniversary of Mosfilm , Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum organized a 5-long Russian Film Festival in Kochi, the Industrial Capital of Kerala. The Film Festival started on 22 June 2009 at the E M S Memorial Town Hall, Ernakulam. Noted director who won the best director's state award this year Mr. Madupal inaugurated the Film Festival. In his inaugural address Madupal said that cultural Ties have to be strengthened among nations for strengthening diplomatic relations. India always enjoyed the privilege of watching good Russian movies. Russian movies greatly influenced Indian Film makers in molding their carrier. Soviet and Russian Film makers are always concerned about the perfect screen play and technical aspects of the movies. They always gave priority to patriotism. Some of them were Alexander Pushkin, Alla Akhmatova, V.V.Bikov, S.N.Galubov, V.V.Avechkin, Nikolai Chukovskiy, Viktor Konetskiy etc. Exhibition of paintings by Narayan Harikrishnan To mark the 105th Birth Anniversary of Swetoslav Roerich As part of the 105th Birth anniversary Celebration of Swetoslav Roerich, a series of Exhibitions of paintings are being organised at the Roerich memorial Art Gallery of the Centre. The first Exhibition started in January. The 8th Edition of the Exhibition was inaugurated on 11 July 2009. The Exhibition titled GAJANANAM highlighted the Cultural heritage of India to which the Roerichs fell in love with. The extracts from Mahabharatha and the imaginary images of Agni Yoga were illustrated by the young and talented artist Mr. Narayan Harikrishnan. More than 40 paintings and sketches are exhibited. Renowned Poet Prof.D.Vinayachandran inaugurated the Exhibition. In his inaugural address Prof. Vinayachandran said that that people in the literary world as well as in the artistic world should follow the foot steps of the members of the Roerich family who re-discovered the soul of Indian Culture. The exhibition will continue till 14 July 2009 and will remain open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm. Inaugurating the Literary Evening, Prof. K.Sachidanandan said that Russian literature, History and Films always influenced Indians. Russians always shine in all sphere of activities. Russian poetry occupies its position in the best 10 poetries in the world; same was the case with Novels and films. Russian literature is known to the world thanks to the translated versions. Russian and the Soviet Government always gave priority in making Russian literature available in most of the languages. "Some critics say that translated versions are inferior to the original poems and novels. But if the translators are sincere to the original works and can feel the hearts of the writers, translations can equally influence the readers like the original versions". Distribution of Certificates to Piano Students
22 July was a great day for the Thaikovsky Music School of the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum. 18 students of the Piano class got certificates from the London Trinity Music School(Trinity Guildhall Examination). All the 18 students appeared for the Examinations in different grades passed and officially received their certificates from Prof. Puthusseri Ramachandran. They were Akshay Shaji(Grade-I), Allan John Tom(Grade-I),Anita Gomez(Grade-I), Anna Mary Mathew(Grade-I), Aravind.M(Grade-II), Aejun Shaji (Grade-II),Gayathri. Photo Exhibition on 'Russian Navy Today'


Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum organised an Exhibition at the Roerich Art Gallery of the Centre. This five day long Photo Exhibition on 'Russian Navy Today' began on 30 July and concluded on 3rd August 2009. The Exhibition was organised to mark the Navy Day of the Russian Federation. More than 40 photographs were displayed at the Art Gallery. These photographs reflected the achievements of the USSR and Russian Navy. Photographs of the Russian Prime Minister H.E.Mr.Vladimir Putin's visit to the Navy sites, Submarines of the Country, Russia's Air craft carriers etc. provided opportunity to the visitors to know more about Russia's strength in protecting its costal area and co-operation between Russia and India in the Military Technical co-operation.

District Level Chess Tournament
District Level Chess Tournament for the Alekhin Trophy was held on 1 August at the Chess club of the Russian Cultural Centre. About 40 players participated. The tournament was held from 1300 hrs to 1800 hrs. The tournament was conducted under the leadership of Mr.C.S.Nair, Convener of the Chess Club of the Russian Cultural Centre.
Ms. Archana won the ALEKHIN Trophy with 4 1/2 points in 5 rounds. Ms.Noushad won the second place with 3 ½ points and Ms.Saji got the third place with 3 points. Mr.M.S.Jayakumar, Director, Jeevan TV presented the prizes.
Photo Exhibition titled MIR AND DRUZHBA
A photo Exhibition titled MIR AND DRUZHBA was organized by the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum to mark the 38th anniversary of signing the treaty of Peace, Friendship and Co-operation between USSR and India. The Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation was a treaty signed between India the Soviet Union in August 1971 that specified mutual strategic cooperation. The treaty was a significant deviation from India's previous position of Non-alignment in the cold war.
Famous media Personality and Chief Executive Officer of Jai Hind TV Mr. K.P.Mohanan inaugurated the photo Exhibition. In his inaugural address Mr. Mohanan said that the Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Co-operation was a milestone in the history of relationship between India and the former USSR. "Even though India took initiative to found the Non-alignment Movement this Treaty proved the position of the former USSR in the foreign policy of India". Said Mr. K.P.Mohanan.
More than 50 photographs were exhibited. These included the snaps taken during the visit of the leaders of the former USSR and India and moments of signing agreements for the co-operation in various spheres of Co-operation. The Exhibition was held at the Roerich Art Gallery till 15 August 2009.

10th Edition of the painting Exhibition to mark the 105th Birth anniversary of Swethoslav Roerich
10th Edition of the painting Exhibition in 2009 to mark the 105th Birth anniversary of Swethoslav Roerich began on 23 August 2009. The Exhibition was held at the Roerich Art Gallery of the Centre. More than 30 paintings in oil and acrylic by the famous artist Mr.Austin Kunjira were exhibited from 10 a m. To 5 p.m. and was on till 26 August.
Renowned artist Mr.Mahindran inaugurated the Exhibition. In his inaugural speech Mr. Mahindran appreciated the initiative taken by the Russian Cultural Centre to promote fine arts. "The Roerich Family loved India and Indian Culture. They laid stone to build the bridge of friendship between our two countries. Continues efforts by both the nations in strengthening these cultural ties should be appreciated". Said Mr. Mahindran. Inspector General of Police Mr. Santharam also visited the Gallery.

September Beslan School Tragedy commemorated 5th anniversary of the Beslan School Tragedy was observed by the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrun by organizing a photo Exhibition and a Seminar. The Exhibition was organized at the Roerich Art Gallery on 1 September.
A seminar titled SAVE CHILDREN FROM TERRORISM was organized by the centre to commemorate the tragic incident that took place 5 years ago. Terrorists had killed 334 people including 186 children in September 2004. Since the the Russian Cultural Centre commemorate this day to create awareness in the society about the cruel face of Terrorism that do no even show sympathy to the innocent children.
Mr.A.A.Sambath MP inaugurated the seminar. Stating terrorism was the biggest challenge of the 21st Centaury, A. Sampath MP said " The bloody siege at Beslan points to the facts that terrorists are targeting the next generation also". He also called for a joint action by various countries of the world to put an end to the threat posed by terrorism.
Famous Psychologist Dr.P.M.Mathew Vellore delivered a lecture on Psychology of terrorism. Writer Dr.George Onakkoor and Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in and Director of the Russian Cultural Centre Ratheesh C. Nair also spoke o the occasion.

11th Edition of the painting Exhibition dedicated to the Birth anniversary of the members of Roerich family was held at Roerich Art Gallery of the Russian Cultural Centre from 9 September to 13 September. The Exhibition of paintings by the renowned Artist of South India Robert Lopez started on 9 September at 5 p.m. Hon'ble Minister for Education and Cultural Affairs Government of Kerala Mr. M.A.Baby inaugurated the Exhibition.
Inaugurating the Exhibition the Minister appreciated the efforts of the Russian Cultural Centres in India in promoting the fine Arts. " Fine Arts and Artists in India are facing real problems. Absence of good Art Galleries in the country create problems in promoting good paintings. Ambiance in the existing art galleries run by the Governmental and Non-Governmental organisations is not sufficient enough to protect the paintings of famous artists" Said the Minister. He also said that the Government would take appropriate steps to renovate the Chitra Art Gallery where paintings of Nikolai and Swethoslav Roerichs along with India's famous painter Raja Ravi Varma are exhibited.

Russian Film Festival at Paravoor
Russian Cultural Centre joined hands with North Paravur Municipality and Kesari Memorial Film Society in organizing a 7 day International Film Festival highlighting Russian Films at 2 major avenues in North Paravur. The Film festival began on 21 September at Chitranjali Theatre and TB Hall. 7 movies directed by the renowned Russian Film Maker Karen Shakhnazarov are being screened. The inaugural film was Vanished Empire.
Minister for Fisheries Government of Kerala Mr. S.Sharma inaugurated the Film Festival. Mr.T.V.Chandran , famous Indian Director who won the National Award many time was the Chief Guest. Both the Minister and Mr.Chandran appreciated the initiative taken by the MOSFILM and the Russian Cultural Centre in screening Russian movies in India after the disintegration of the USSR.

This Exhibition of paintings by the famous artist Eby N. Joseph was organized as part of the 7 Day long Roerich Festival comprising Exhibitions, Talk, Video Show and Seminar. Chief Minister of Kerala Mr.V.S.Achuthanandan paid a visit to the Roerich Art Gallery of the Russian Cultural Centre where the 7 Day Roerich Festival is going on. Seminar on 'the Role of the Roerichs in Indo-Russian Relations' was organized by the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum on 15 October as part of the valedictory programme of the Roerich Festival. Roerich Festival was on since the beginning of the year to mark the 105th Birth anniversary of Swethoslav Roerich and 135th Birth anniversary of Nikolai Roerich. The Festival comprised monthly painting Exhibitions, Painting camps, and Painting competition, talk and seminars. Dr.G.Balamohan Thampy, writer, scholar and the former Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University inaugurated the valedictory function. He delivered a talk on the Role of the Roerich family in strengthening the Relation between Russia and India. Dr.Balamohan Thampi said that Nikolai Roerich always remained a true son of Russia while he became an Universal Citizen. He painted more than 7000 paintings out of which 200 were on Himalayas. He was also interested in deep studies on the historic relationship between Europe, Central Asia and oriental Countries. He also believed that Culture is based on Beauty and Knowledge, Said Dr.Thampi.

Elder son of Nikolai and Elena Roeichs Yuri Roerich was interested in Oriental languages, Indian Phylosophy and had deep knowledge in Tibetan and Buddhist Culture. Swethoslav Roerich discovered the heart of Indian Culture. He visited Kerala and stayed in Travancore for more than 3 months to make the portrait of the King Chitra Thirunal. During his stay Swethoslav Roerich mingled not only with the members of the Royal family but also with the common men, Said Dr.Balamohan Thampi. This year's Oscar Award winner for Sound Mixing Mr.Rasul Pookkutty for the film Slum Dog Millionaire lauded the contribution of the Russian Cultural Centre, Trivandrum in developing a movie oriented technician within himself. He was addressing the members of the Russian Cultural Centre on 23 October. The function was organized to honour Mr.Pookkutty who was a member of the Centre in late eighties during his College days in Trivandrum. "I used to come to the Russian Cultural centre practically every day either to watch Russian Film or to read books. When I am addressing you from this platform, I have a nostalgic feeling about Russian Cinema. I am happy that the Russian Cultural Centre is still actively promoting good movies, said Mr.Pookkutty.

Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly Mr.K.Radhakrishnan was the Chief Guest. He expressed desire to conduct a Russian Film Festival in his Constituency. He also mentioned about a small village in his constituency which is named after MOSCOW. The Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Trivandrum who is the director of the Russian Cultural Centre promised to organize a get together of Russians in Kerala at the Moscow Village about which the Speaker mentioned. He also presented a memento to Mr. Rasul Pookkutty.

Former Minister Dr.M.K.Muneer and Dr.V.Venu IAS, Government Secretary for Cultural Affairs and Tourism also spoke on the occasion. An Exhibition of 50 Cartoons of Rasul Pookkutty by 50 cartoonists were also Exhibited. Mr.Pookkutty inaugurated the Exhibition by sketching his on caricature. The caricature Exhibition lasted for 2 days. The Exhibition was organized in association with Kerala Cartoon Academy.
