Birth Anniversary of Anton Chekhov and screening of The Lady with the little Dog

“Anton Chekhov is considered to be among the greatest writers of short stories in history. His career as a dramatist produced four classics and his best short stories are held in high esteem by writers and critics. Chekhov practiced as a doctor throughout most of his literary career: He was a true Doctor and sincere writer. That is why he once said "Medicine is my lawful wife", he once said, "and literature is my mistress." Mr.M.A.Baby also said that Chekhov had written for common men and the feelings of under currents could be reflected in his stories and dramas. “He never hesitated to re-write the stories and dramas to make his works more readable and attractive. He made changes to one of his first dramas and wrote Uncle Vanya. That itself shows his magnanimity”, said Mr.M.A.Baby. Ratheesh C. Nair, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation and Director, Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Thiruvanathapuram presided over the function. Mr.Suresh Babu, Co-ordinator of the Film Club at the Centre proposed vote of thanks. Film The Lady with the Little Dog was screened after the meeting.
